From benched to starter once again is the latest turn of events for Joshua Dobbs, who was traded to the Minnesota Vikings from the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday.
The Vikings had a need for a starting quarterback after Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
Dobbs was previously the Cardinals starter, filling in for the injured Kyler Murray. Dobbs went 1-7 as Arizona’s starter, throwing eight touchdowns and five interceptions.
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said Monday Dobbs would not be starting the team’s next game against Cleveland, most likely turning to rookie Clayton Tune instead.
After a bad start to the season, the Vikings have won three straight games, but lost Cousins for the season.
Jaren Hall replace Cousins on Sunday and is in line to play this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons, although there is an outside chance Dobbs would be ready to play for his new team by then.
A 2024 seventh-round pick was also dealt from Arizona to Minnesota in the deal, with the Cardinals receiving a 2024 sixth-round pick in return.
Murray, who is recovering from ACL surgery, can return from the physically unable to play list by Nov. 8, days prior to when the Cardinals play the Falcons themselves.
