Celtic star Gustaf Lagerbielke won just his second cap for Sweden on Thursday night and took his opportunity to impress with his first senior international goal.

As well as contributing to a win over Moldova as part of a central defensive pairing with former Rangers player Filip Helander, Lagerbielke showed off his aerial threat at the other end of the pitch to head home from a set-piece.

The official Swedish national team social media accounts later uploaded footage of the effort, with a beaming Lagerbielke reacting to his first goal for his country. You can see the goal embedded below

Lagerbielke did display a goal threat in his developing years at club level in Sweden, scoring 12 senior efforts before departing for Glasgow during the summer transfer window.

He is still settling into life at Celtic so hasn’t quite managed to show off that part of his game to date, but it seems we can expect him to be a handful in the opposition box when given the chance to be.

Lagerbielke has already made seven appearances for the Bhoys but with a spell on the sidelines potentially upcoming due to the presence of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales, it was a real positive for him to get 90 minutes under his belt onThursday nightnight.

Sweden now play away to Belgium on Monday night but the 23-year-old is not expected to be involved, with the likes of Carl Starfelt and Victor Lindelof ahead of him when the country plays their full-strength line-up.

Nonetheless, the goal will have him brimming with confidence on his return to Lennoxtown next week. That’s energy that will be useful for both him and the Bhoys over the coming weeks during a heavy fixture schedule.
