Expert Ian Wright praised Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou when discussing Chelsea’s disappointing results this season.

Mauricio Pochettino has been unable to make an immediate impact at Chelsea – unlike Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou.

This is the opinion of expert Ian Wright, who spoke on the Stick fo Football podcast.

Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa on Sunday with Ollie Watkins scoring the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge.

That’s now just one win in six league games this season and three games without a goal.

The Blues haven’t managed to turn around their goalscoring form from last season and the big spending isn’t leading to improved results.

Ian Wright comments on Mauricio Pochettino and Ange Postecoglou

Pundit Wright has now spoken about the situation, suggesting that he still isn’t really seeing signs that Pochettino is changing things at Chelsea.

Wright noted that Chelsea are bringing in so many young players and there is still an expectation of winning things at Stamford Bridge.

The former Arsenal striker noted that he still hasn’t seen real progress from Chelsea – which isn’t the case at Tottenham.

Wright highlighted Ange Postecoglou as an example of how a manager can make an instant impact, suggesting we are already seeing his influence just a few games into life at Tottenham – something Pochettino hasn’t done at Chelsea just yet.

“We’re seeing all these young players come in for a team that are expected to be amongst it, expected to win things, expected to play well, with a manager that you’re thinking ‘he should be able to sort it out’ – up to this point, I still haven’t seen it,” said Wright.

“When you look at someone like Ange Postecoglou, he’s come in and in five or six games, we’re seeing it. We’re still not seeing it with Chelsea,” he added.

Tottenham fans surely happy with Postecoglou over Pochettino now

Many Tottenham supporters wanted Pochettino back at the club following Antonio Conte’s exit.

Spurs went in a completely different direction though, deciding to appoint Postecoglou instead.

That was seen as a bold move; just two years earlier, Postecoglou was managing in Japan with Yokohama F. Marinos.

Right now though, Spurs fans will probably feel that the right decision was made.

Postecoglou has brought a new energy to Tottenham and established an instant connection with the Spurs fanbase.

A strong brand of football, good results and real leadership from Postecoglou in the wake of Harry Kane’s exit means Tottenham fans are completely behind their new boss.

Rather than go back to an old boss in Pochettino, Tottenham tried something new – and so far, they are reaping the rewards.
