West Ham United have reportedly contacted Arsenal regarding a summer move for Reiss Nelson.

West Ham United have initiated discussions with Arsenal regarding a potential transfer for winger Reiss Nelson, according to Football Insider. Nelson, who has expressed a desire to seek regular first-team football away from the Emirates, appears to be on the verge of a new lease of life.

As things stand, Arsenal value Nelson, an academy graduate, between £25-30 million. With Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion also interested, there is no shortage of suitors.

Nelson’s Arsenal Journey

Nelson’s journey with Arsenal began at the tender age of nine when he joined the club’s academy. Over the years, he climbed through the ranks, making his way into the first team. However, consistent playing time has eluded him, particularly in the Premier League.

In the 2023/24 season, Nelson started just one league match and did not record any goals or assists in his 15 appearances. Despite these challenges, his talent and potential have never been in question.

The 24-year-old’s career has also seen him gain experience abroad with loan spells at Feyenoord Rotterdam and TSG Hoffenheim, where he showcased his abilities in attack. He is currently at an age where he needs to play regularly and given the opportunity, will strive to please.

The winger’s current contract with Arsenal runs until June 2027, with the club holding an option to extend it for an additional year. This long-term contract provides Arsenal with leverage in negotiations, ensuring they can command a significant fee that aligns with their valuation.

A win-win for all parties

Selling Reiss Nelson would provide a financial boost to Arsenal, particularly under the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The sale would be recorded as pure profit in the club’s financial accounts, strengthening their position in the transfer market. This influx of funds would support Mikel Arteta’s ambitions as he aims to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title in the upcoming season.

A move away from Arsenal could be the perfect solution for Reiss Nelson. At 24, he needs regular playing time to develop further and realize his potential fully. West Ham United, with their dynamic style of play and need for versatile attacking options, could offer him the platform he needs. Julen Lopetegui is likely to have a more expansive style than David Moyes and this bodes well for Nelson’s development.
