Micah Richards couldn’t believe it after Gary Lineker claimed that Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min is the second-best striker in the Premier League after Erling Haaland.

Despite the defeat on Monday, Spurs are in a great position. They have had a fantastic start to the new season, and skipper Son has been one of their best players so far.

What Gary Lineker and Micah Richards said about Tottenham’s Son Heung-min

Son Heung-min has been one of Tottenham‘s best players since they signed him for £22 million (Eurosport) back in the summer of 2015.

The South Korean was mostly used as a left-winger at Spurs, but following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich in the summer, Son became Tottenham’s number nine.

The 31-year-old has scored eight goals and provided an assist in just 11 games in the Premier League so far this season. He has been outstanding, and Gary Lineker heaped big praise on him on the Rest is Football podcast.

When asked to name the best striker in the Premier League right now apart from Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland, Lineker said: “Actually, I’ve got it. I’ve got the answer to this question. He has shifted to nine this season, a certain Heung-min Son.”

A shocked Micah Richards replied: “Oh no! Gary, you can’t do that. We’re shifting? He’s a forward.”

Lineker then said: “The question is who is the best striker after Erling Haaland in the Premier League right now? If it was over a period of time, we could’ve said Harry Kane or Alan Shearer or someone else.

“But, at the moment, Son is playing as a nine and he is playing it brilliantly. What I like about him is he’s great at getting behind the back four in all seriousness. That’s got to be the answer, isn’t it?”

Son has been fantastic

When Harry Kane left Tottenham in the summer and Ange Postecoglou decided against signing a like-for-like replacement, many felt Spurs would be in trouble.

However, Son has stepped up as a number nine, and he has been incredible.

Nine direct goal contributions in 11 starts is an outstanding return, and if he can keep this going, Tottenham could achieve something really special in the coming months.

Tottenham take on Wolves this weekend in what is a very tricky game. However, if Son steps up again, Spurs should be able to win the game.
